![]() ![]() But when someone imagines those same characters as Black or Hispanic or Western European why the hell would I get upset by that? In fact, it’s cool to see how differently we all imagine the same stories we read I like to imagine characters to look like me because I love to see myself in stories. You can’t attack someone online for what they imagine book characters to look like in their heads. They are of a fictional world, a fictional ethnic background, a fictional country. If someone wants to fancast Illyrians as Henry Cavill or Toni Mahfud or even fucking Trey Songz, then let them. That’s what I love about books, unlike movies and tv shows, you can literally take the descriptions of characters/cities/buildings provided by the author and do what you want with them in your head. Unless the character’s race/ethnic background is integral to the plot or their backstory (or unless the author explicitly states it or hints at it), there’s literally no reason for you to hate on someone for imagining a character with brown skin as white with a tan while you imagined them as a south Asian or MENA etc. I know I only have like two followers but I’m gonna say it anyways ![]()
